I can't believe this is not Patchouli from Touhou
Hi everyone!
Kicking this year off with a comfy cosplay project from one of my favorite animes! :D I love a simple cosplay I can just throw on and chill when feeling overwhelmed. Fern from Frieren is perfect for that.

I'm a bit embarrassed to admit that I found this anime through TikTok. I showed a clip of it to my boyfriend, whom of course, has read some of the manga before the anime came out. I should've known better. We still watched it together and really loved it. It's beautiful story about saying good bye, a sad and difficult, but also necesssary lesson to learn. I really want to cosplay the main protagonist, Frieren at some point, but for now Fern would be easier as her outfit is a breeze to put together, I also have a pair of purple lenses lying around waiting for use (that weren't as good as I thought). Also Fern is a great character! Determined, doesn't like to waste time and also, a very talented mage!
Wig out of the bag, brushed. Color is lighter irl.
The wig was definitely too long and thick especially from the bangs. Started cutting little by little from the bangs and then trimmed the back. I wanted the result to be as sharp as possible. I also straightened it, thinned it out and finished with XZ Moomin spray (detangling spray specifically for childrens hair, it has silicone in it, so it's perfect for wigs too!), so it doesn't tangle that easy.
Back to my emo years
The half-up do was super easy to create. My wig is quite thick so when I put the top section to a ponytail, net or wefts couldn't be seen. I didn't even need to crimp or tease the fibres!

I used clear hair ties.
For the hair clip I actually bought a hairclip on sale (1€!) and used it as a base. While drawing a template I used the size of that clip for scale. It had some design on it, so the new one had to cover it.

I copied the silhouette on foam and drew the design again on it, then traced it with 3D pen. Just like I did with Venat's mask.

Now comes the part where I messed up. I should've worked with that 3D drawn design, maybe fill it up with some gesso or something, but no, I covered it with worbla again. The method worked with Venat's mask, because the masks design was bigger. With such tiny swirls the design gets lost under the worbla. I tried to work with it regardless. I might try and do this again, but the thing is that I can't see the hairclip myself when I wear it.. ever. So it being ugly is not really my problem! :D It's everyone elses who looks at the back of my head lol.

The worbla is a bit old, so it's super sticky (I burned my fingers a few times)!
The patterns to the dress I kind of free handed. I did one mock up and to me it was ok so I rolled with it. I've never done a top like this, but it was fun trying something different. I ended up actually enjoying patterning process here.
The pleats, I kinda wanted to add white lace trims to make them pop more, I still might do it.
The top. It has closing in the back, so I don't have to worry about buttons.
The skirt and sleeves were super easy. I went with an A-line skirt and 3/4 length sleeves (I almost ran out of fabric lol), the sleeves would be covered anyway, so I didn't pay too much attention to them. The black jacket is actually my hooded knit jacket I've had for ages, so I didn't need to make one, yay!

Once I had the clothes I did a makeup test and tried on the whole costume. The pics were taken with my phone quickly and I will get better pics taken later.
I honestly felt so comfy! Wearing this I don't have to worry about my body or anything. Just vibe! :3 This was very simple project and I'm loving the result of stress free work! I want to tackle the staff at some point too!
This is what Patchouli looks like btw, I kind of want to cosplay her too at some point!
